Obituary

William Evans Davis passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Monday, April 22nd, 2019 at 91 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Myrne (nee O’Hara) Davis, cherished father of Mike Davis and father-in-law of Laura Stewart-Davis of Ottawa, and beloved grandfather of Allison, Ian and Connor.

LCdr Bill Davis (Ret.) was a Korean War Navy veteran and served as paymaster on the destroyer HMCS Cayuga. He continued serving with the Navy for many years, working in Halifax, Montreal and Washington. He then joined Treasury Board in the Public Service of Canada in 1968 and eventually retired from Supply and Services Canada in 1986. In retirement, he enjoyed a successful run as a wooden boat enthusiast, building and repairing (and riding in) canoes and power boats in Florida and Ontario for over 30 years.

Bill was a great friend, an avid teller of stories (some of which might have even been true) and a keen supporter of many organizations and businesses in and around his hometown of Brockville. He will be missed by many of his friends in both Brockville and Ottawa.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Bill’s life and reception at the Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville, ON, on Saturday, May 4th from 11 am until 1 pm.

As expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust (HMCS Sackville, P.O. Box 99000, Stn Forces, Halifax, NS, B3K 5X5) or St Paul’s Anglican Church (12 Pine Street, Brockville, ON, K6V 2A9) would be appreciated.

Jayne Christopher I am so sorry to hear that Bill has passed away. My daughter Laura and I spent many wonderful 1000 Islands Playhouse trips to Stratford with Bill and Myrne and then just Bill. He was loads of fun. We will miss him terribly. Jayne and Laura Christopher

I knew Bill for many years, first as a boss - the best boss I ever had -- and then as a friend and fellow boating enthusiast. I hadn't seen him much in recent years, although we kept in touch, and I did get a chance to visit him about a month before he died, in his new home in Ottawa. He was in good spirits and as enthusiastic and well informed as ever about current events and other matters. I am sorry I could not attend the memorial service because I was at a family event in Toronto, but I would like Mike and the family to know that I was thinking about him --- and I will continue to remember him well. Had the privilege of knowing and working with Mr. Davis for a number of years at Supply & Services just before his retirement. What a wonderful gentleman, great boss and mentor. Always enjoyed the stories. Rest in peace Mr. Davis. Laurette Quesnel
